Steve Wheeler visit

 The Waikato Centre for eLearning (WCEL) were pleased to host Professor Steve Wheeler at the University of Waikato on Wednesday 29th September 2010.
Professor Wheeler is well known in the educational technology field and was invited to keynote the prestigious ULearn 2010 conference in Christchurch. We are grateful to Steve for taking time out of his schedule to visit the Waikato.
Workshop details:
Steve ran a workshop called "10 top Web 2.0 tools teachers shouldn't be without"
Staff came along to learn and practice co-operative and collaborative learning using wikis, blogs, podcasts, social bookmarking, photo and video sharing, Twitter, etc...
A website has been created outlining the tools Steve talked about which can help with our own personal learning journey as well as providing engaging, enabling and enhanced learning & teaching opportunities.
Steve Wheeler Bio
 Steve Wheeler is Associate Professor in Learning Technology at the University of Plymouth. Steve convenes the University's e-learning research network and coordinates technology mediated learning for the faculty. His research interests include e-learning, distance education, social media, mobile technologies, creativity and student support. His most recent book, published in 2009 is entitled ‘Connected Minds, Emerging Cultures’.
Steve serves on the boards of a number of peer reviewed academic journals including ALT-J, Digital Culture and Education and IRRODL, and is the co-editor of Interactive Learning Environments. He is chair of the UNESCO funded IFIP Working Group 3.6 (Distance Education) and a Fellow of the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN).
