Moodle - Student Help

This section of the Help Files covers the Moodle Messaging feature.

Settings Block - MessagingMoodle will notify you when another user sends you a personal message, a post has been added to a forum you subscribe to, an assignment you have submitted has been graded or when you have submitted to a quiz (if the quiz has been set up this way).

You choose how you would like to receive these message notifications, via a pop-up display on the screen or via email

Clicking on the message dropdown will list recent notifications and messages. If you then click on one of the items it will take to you that message, forum, assignment, etc.

 

 

To set your notificaiton preferences click the 'Messaging' link in the Settings block to configure your preferences including the email address you prefer these notifications to go to and if you would like to prevent non-contacts from sending you messages.

Receiving a Message

When you receive a message or notification from Moodle the notifications envelope appears at the top right hand side of the screen and a pop-up message appears in the bottom right hand side of the screen. You have the option to 'Go to messages' from the popup notification to read and reply to the message or 'Ignore' the message. If you choose to ignore the message it will reappear the next time you log into Moodle. Clicking on the message dropdown will list recent notifications and messages. If you then click on one of the items it will take to you that message, forum, assignment, etc.

Checking Notifications sent to you from Moodle

Moodle keeps track of all Notification messages sent to you. These include when another user sends you a personal message, a post has been added to a forum you subscribe to, an assignment you have submitted has been graded or when you have submitted to a quiz).

To view these within Moodle click the message dropdown at the top of the page then click on one of the items it will take to you that message, forum, assignment, etc. You can also choose "Recent Notifications" from the Message navigation dropdown on the "Navigation > My Profile > Messages".

Sending a Message

The Messaging system within Moodle provides a way of sending instant messages to your lecturer or a classmate but is not limited to a specific paper.  Any Moodle user may send a message to another.  Messages are managed via 'My Profile - Messages' in the Navigation block. You can use this screen to search for a user to send them a message. You can also click the 'Send message' link on their profile page (click on a user's name to view their profile).
