Dr Helen Barrett
Dr Helen Barrett is an outstanding contributor to eportfolio discourse, research and development. Working in the field before the term was coined, she has provided leadership across education sectors in the use of eportfolios for, and as, learning. In recognition of this she received the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Institute for eLearning (EIfEL) for her contribution to ePortfolio research and development.
Helen has written extensively on ePortfolios and maintains a website at http://electronicportfolios.org. She is much in demand as a speaker and consultant especially on the integration of ePortfolios and digital storytelling. Her involvement with educational technology over the last 30 years will allow her to bring deep insights regarding learning and the role of technology and reflection in that process..
Keynote Address: Know Thyself: ePortfolios and Reflective Stories of Deep Learning
Dr. Helen Barrett will address a variety of ePortfolio learning strategies to help students reflect on their learning from three perspectives: planning/goal-setting (future), capturing learning as it is happening (present) and metacognition/reflecting on change over time (past). Drawing on various models of reflection, Dr. Barrett will bridge theory with practical examples to support lifelong learning strategies of self-monitoring, self-awareness and self-management. Strategies will include reflective journals (blogs), digital storytelling, and using a variety of mobile apps to capture evidence of learning.
