About the Waikato Centre for eLearning

WCEL are a central unit dedicated to the support of staff in all Faculties and Divisions to promote the use of effective technologies in teaching, learning, research and administration.

What we do for staff

  • Support staff in using eLearning tools effectively
  • Provide consultancy and support for the development of innovative eLearning practice
  • Provide support for the setup and administration of eLearning Environments using Moodle
  • Provide consultancy for the development of effective eLearning courses, materials and resources
  • Assist in developing effective strategies for teaching in eLearning contexts
  • Provide customised workshops for the development of specific eLearning skills
  • Provide consultancy and support for the use of audio and video in teaching
  • Facilitate the sharing of eLearning knowledge between staff
  • Investigate solutions for eLearning requirements
  • Promote creativity in the approach staff take to finding technology solutions
  • Provide consultancy and support for the effective use of Google Apps in teaching, learning, research and administration

What we do for the University

  • Contribute to the development and promotion of Moodle at a national and international level.
  • Champion the use of effective eLearning practice in the University
  • Provide support in Schools for eLearning development planning
  • Investigate and evaluate new and emerging technologies
  • Facilitate research on eLearning technology, pedagogy and content in partnership with Faculties and Schools
  • Provide leadership and the University of Waikato perspective on national and international forums in eLearning
